Hawaii is open about its connection to monarchy and has integrated it into its culture and politics. Though Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders make up about 12% of the state population there is a constant refence to Hawaii’s 70 years of British style monarchy. This over hanging shadow of the Hawaiian Monarchy as well as the impact of the Aristocrat/Oligarchy on Hawaii’s politics is the weak link undermining Hawaii becoming a robust constitutional republic in the US system.

For decades conservatives in Hawaii have been as enthrall to this mindset as liberals. Lacking the numerous avenues to becoming elected representatives available in mainland states, conservatives always hope to gain the highest (Nui Ali’i and Moi) style office of governor or mayor to do top down reform. But, the stronghold the Democrat party has and its natural Marxist/socialist preference for one party control locks conservatives out of power in perpetuity without dramatic change.

Conservatives in Hawaii cannot cling to monarch in attitude or practice. Even those of Hawaiian ancestry need to remember the Ali’i based conflicts which led to the Kamehameha descendants monarchy can be viewed as a continuum of Hawaiian people gaining greater say in their government by building MORE representation not less.

The legacy of the oligarchy denying the ability to have independent cities, real counties, elected sheriffs and judges along with the host of potential representatives must be done away with for the full potential of a sovereign state living under the blessings and freedom of a constitutional republic to be recognized..
